About

Gauri Shankar Temple Dashal, also known locally as Dashal Shiva Temple or the Ancient Stone Temple of Dashal village, is a revered pilgrimage centre nestled in Dashal Village, Hallan-i area, within the Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh.

This ancient temple stands as a remarkable example of Nagara (North Indian) architecture and is recognized as an ASI protected monument.

Set against the scenic backdrop of hills and close to a riverbank, the temple draws devotees and travelers seeking spiritual solace and a glimpse of Himachal’s heritage.

The temple is primarily dedicated to Lord Shiva, with the sanctum also enshrining other deities such as Goddess Parvati, Lord Ganesha, Kartikeya, Vishnu with Lakshmi or Garuda, Brahma, Ganga, Yamuna, Shaiva dvarapalas, Navagrahas, and Mahishasuramardini (Durga).

This diversity of deities makes the Gauri Shankar Temple Dashal a significant site for worshippers from various traditions within Hinduism. Devotees can participate in daily rituals, with morning and evening abhishekam and aarti conducted in Sanskrit and Hindi.

Darshan is free for all visitors, and the temple is open from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM, making it convenient for pilgrims to plan their visit.

The best time to visit is during the winter months (November to February), summer (March to May), or in the morning hours between 8 AM and 12 PM for a serene experience.

The temple observes major Hindu festivals such as Maha Shivratri (February-March), Shravan Month Celebrations (July-August), and Navratri & Dussehra (September-October).

During these occasions, simple prasad like mishri, dry fruits, fruit, and vibhuti is distributed after aarti, and community bhandaras are organized, though there is no permanent annadanam facility.

Visitors are advised to dress modestly: men should wear long trousers and shirts, while women are encouraged to opt for conservative attire such as salwar kameez or long skirts with covered shoulders.

Photography is allowed in the outer courtyard and surroundings, but is typically restricted inside the sanctum. Commercial video equipment or drone usage requires prior permission.

To reach the temple, travelers can arrive by road at Kullu or Manali, then proceed from Naggar for about 5 km towards Dashal village. From Sarsai, take the left-bank Kullu-Manali highway and walk approximately 700 meters, following village lanes and stone steps to the temple.

Parking is limited to roadside or village-level spots, and the temple is not wheelchair accessible. Accommodation is not available at the temple, but ample stay options can be found in Naggar, Manali, and Kullu. Nearby, visitors can also explore attractions like Naggar Castle, enriching their pilgrimage experience.
