Matsyodari Devi Temple Ambad

Situated atop the unique Matsyodari Dongar, a fish-shaped hill, this ancient pilgrimage centre is dedicated to Goddess Shakti and is also home to shrines for Mahalakshmi, Mahasaraswati, and Mahakali.

The temple is recognized as a living heritage site and is managed by a local trust, reflecting its enduring cultural and spiritual significance since the Maratha period. The current structure was built by Ahilyabai Holkar of the Holkar Dynasty, further enhancing its historical importance.

Devotees visiting Matsyodari Devi Temple can participate in various poojas such as Kakad Aarti, Abhishek, Mahapooja, and Dhoop/Shej Aarti, performed in Marathi and Sanskrit. The temple offers free darshan to all pilgrims, with daily timings from 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM.

The best time to visit is during winter (November to February), the festival season, or in the early morning hours between 5 and 8 AM, when the serene atmosphere and cool weather add to the spiritual experience.

The temple comes alive during major festivals, especially Sharad Navratri & Dashahara in September-October, Chaitra Navratri in March-April, and the grand Annual Fair (Jatra) held during Navratri.

During these times, large-scale annadanam is organized, and devotees receive prasadam such as kumkum, sacred ash, flowers, and occasionally sweets.

To reach Matsyodari Devi Temple, pilgrims can arrive at Jalna city and travel south to Ambad, a distance of approximately 21–28 km by state highway or local roads.

From Ambad, local auto-rickshaws, cabs, or private vehicles can take visitors to the base of Matsyodari hill, from where a stairway leads up to the temple.

Ample parking is available near the base for cars, buses, and two-wheelers, though wheelchair accessibility is limited due to the hill and stairs.

The nearest railway stations are Jalna Railway Station (28 km) and Partur Railway Station (52 km), while Chikkalthana Airport (Aurangabad Airport - IXU) is about 64 km away.
