Jivdani Devi Temple

This ancient temple is dedicated primarily to Goddess Shakti (Amman) and also houses shrines for Lord Krishna, Mahakali, Kalbhairav, Lord Ganesha, and Devi Ekvira, making it a significant spiritual destination for devotees seeking blessings from multiple deities.

The temple’s architecture reflects a blend of traditional and renovated styles, preserving its status as a living heritage temple managed by a local trust. Pilgrims can visit daily between 4:00 AM and 8:00 PM, with the inner sanctum closed from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM for cleaning.

The best times for darshan are early mornings (5–8 AM), during evening aarti, in the winter months (November to February), during festival seasons, on weekdays for a less crowded experience, and during the annual brahmotsavam.

Devotees can participate in various poojas, including the early morning Abhishek (2:30–4:00 AM), Poshakh (4:00–5:00 AM), Morning Aarti (5:30 AM), Afternoon Aarti (12:00 PM), and Evening/Sandhya Aarti (7:30 PM).

Special poojas such as Durga Saptashati Paath, Chandi Homa, and Ganapati Homa are also conducted. Poojas are performed in Sanskrit, Marathi, Hindi, and English, catering to a diverse group of pilgrims.

For darshan, both free entry and seeghra (quick) darshan options are available, with seeghra darshan priced at ₹200.

The temple observes a modest dress code: men are encouraged to wear full-length trousers, dhotis, and shirts, while women should opt for sarees, salwar kameez, or kurtis covering shoulders and knees.

Reaching Jivdani Devi Temple is convenient via Virar Railway Station (3.5 km away), with auto-rickshaws available to the base of the hill. Pilgrims can ascend the 1,375–1,400 steps or use the ropeway/funicular (₹200–₹250 per person).

Ample parking is available at the foothill, and there are facilities like ropeway and elevator/trolley assistance for the elderly and differently-abled. Traditional dry prasad, kumkum, and sweets are distributed, and annadanam (community food) is provided during afternoons and festivals.
